Daniel Mclaughlin Therrell was born in 1868 in Bennettsvile,S.C. and died in Atlanta on Noveber 4,1958 at the age of 90. He was a special agent, district manager, division superintendent and on the general staff of Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Co. of Atlanta. He was also a general supervisor for a radio network service for nine southern states.

Mr. Therrell was a member of the Atlanta Board of Education for many years. His service began in January 1924 and continued for many years. Then, he came on the Board again in January 1934 and served through the year 1936. In January 1940, he began his longest term of office, continuing through December 1953.

Mr. Therrell worked diligently and faithfully for the welfare of the children and teachers of the Atlanta Public School System. Several bond issues were passed during this time, and no one worked harder for a cause than he did, without thought of personal gain or glory but because he knew the need and was genuinely concerned that Atlanta provide adequately for the educational needs of her youth.

Mr. Therrell was, for a number of years, Chairman of the Rules Committee of the Atlanta Board of Education, and it was during this time that the present rules and regulations were adopted.

Mr. Therrell was recognized, not only as an educator, but as a valuable citizen in many fields, and Board members and Board employees appreciated him as a writer, an inventor, and a business executive.
